San Antonio Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama revealed the three players he wants to dunk on the most this upcoming season.
“The best defenders would be the biggest challenges, so of course my guy Rudy Gobert, I think Kawhi (Leonard) would be – because all these guys I respect them so much on the defensive end that it would be incredible to dunk on them,” Wembanyama told Ashley Nicole Moss of CBS Sports.
“So I’d say Rudy, Kawhi, and a third one … Jonathan Isaac. I think (Isaac’s) a really, really underrated defender.”
Wembanyama also mentioned two players from the past that he would’ve liked to dunk on: Los Angeles Lakers legends Kobe Bryant and Wilt Chamberlain.
The reigning Rookie of the Year has already established himself as a prolific dunker. He ranked in the top 10 in number of dunks last season, according to Basketball Reference. Wembanyama’s French counterpart Gobert was second with 248, just behind Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Wembanyama will have three opportunities to dunk on the four-time Defensive Player of the Year when the Spurs square off against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Nov. 2, Dec. 29, and March 9. San Antonio faces Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers in a trio of games on Nov. 4, Dec. 31, and Jan. 29.
The 20-year-old will have to wait longer into the season for his opportunity to dunk on Isaac, as the Spurs play the Orlando Magic on Feb. 8 and March 17.
