The Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey agreed to a three-year extension with an average annual value of $24.1 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Ramsey’s deal includes $55.3 million guaranteed, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The extension makes Ramsey the league’s highest-paid corner for the second time in his career, per Schefter. Denver Broncos standout Patrick Surtain II had set the bar earlier this week with an extension that carries an average annual value of $24 million.
Ramsey has been one of the most decorated defensive backs since he was drafted fifth overall in 2016. The 29-year-old has been named to the Pro Bowl in seven consecutive seasons and earned three first-team All-Pro nods.
The Florida State product was traded to the Dolphins ahead of the 2023 campaign. Ramsey tallied 22 total tackles, three interceptions, and five pass deflections in 10 games during his first season in Miami. He allowed a 53.8% completion rate and 51.1 passer rating in coverage, according to Pro Football Reference.
Head coach Mike McDaniel said Ramsey is expected to return to practice Friday, but his status for the team’s Week 1 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars remains uncertain, per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe. The cover man has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Ramsey has racked up 22 interceptions, 97 pass deflections, and six forced fumbles in 118 career games split between the Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, and Jaguars.
