Scottie Scheffler went wire-to-wire to claim the PGA TOUR Championship at East Lake on Sunday.
Scheffler won the $25-million prize by four strokes over Collin Morikawa.
As the FedEx Cup standings leader, Scheffler started the tournament at 10-under and had a six-shot lead over Morikawa to commence play Thursday. Scheffler finished 30-under for the event.
The TOUR Championship triumph is Scheffler’s first. The 28-year-old entered the competition in pole position the past two years but finished T2 to Rory McIlroy in 2022 and T6 last year. Patrick Cantlay was the last top-ranked player entering the championship to win in 2021.
Scheffler adds the TOUR Championship to a stunning seven-win season, which includes victories at the Masters and The Players. He also claimed gold at the Olympics. Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh are the only players since 1981 to have won seven or more PGA TOUR titles in a season.
Viktor Hovland, the defending TOUR Championship winner, finished T12.
